Noise complaint and 400ft rule …

NBRMAS has recently received two reports, one from RAF Benson of a ‘possible confliction with a model aircraft’ and a separate, second report of a noise complaint from a resident in Marcham.

Both reports must be taken seriously as they could jeopardise the use of our flying site for all members.

To address the first issue, all members of NBRMAS must adhere to Article 16, notably height restrictions.  In practice, this means that model aircraft weighing more than 7.5Kg must not be flown higher than 400ft at our Landmead patch.  Flying such models above 400ft is considered unlawful flying.

The second issue will be addressed by closely monitoring the noise of all model aircraft flown at Landmead.   Rule 18 states, ‘No model that has a noise level that exceeds 88dBs (as measured at 7 metres with the model approximately 1 metre above the ground) shall be flown from any Society field’.  According to the BMFA this is ‘quite loud’ and may need to be reviewed to bring it in line with the ‘Code of Practice on Noise from Model Aircraft’ to 82dB.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
